Well, here we are, it’s now 2006 and we are at the beginning of a brand new year…
What is it about a new year that brings about the need for new resolutions? Is it the idea of a fresh slate — the chance to start all over again?
Actually, I find that the beginning of a new week or a new month is just as good a beginning for such things. However, I do understand the concept of fresh starts and how important it can be for many people.
However, over the years, I have personally found that the beginning of the Chinese New Year always seems to have more of an effect on me. It always seems to mark a clear change in the direction of my life. And so, I have found myself marking it more as the beginning of a fresh start for myself… although this year does not presage a good period for Dragons such as myself, so I will for the most part be “lying low”.
In 2006, the Chinese “Year of the Dog” begins on the 29th of January 2006 and lasts until the 16th February 2007. (Chinese new year begins on the second new moon after winter solstice.) I found some brief summaries of how the different Chinese signs fare in the Year of the Dog, for those who might be interested:
The Year of the Dog is a time of fairness and equality. Controversial issues are given their due, revolutions are successful, politics are liberal, and social oppression is opposed. Integrity and honesty are the values that lead to success under Dog’s watchful and just influence.
Rat : This is an auspicious year for considering changes to your home. If you decide to move, aim for the South-East – as this will bring the greatest benefits.
Ox : Problems this year are likely to lead to disruption in your home. Make sure that adverse circumstances are not forced on you.
Cat/Tiger : This is a favourable year for you. It brings auspicious influences to bear on any matters connected with the home (the building itself, rather than the people within).
Rabbit : If it is possible to postpone any important decisions it would be best to do so. Indeed, a plan which you were hoping to complete may fall through, though it would not have been a success had you continued.
Dragon : Mighty Dragon could experience an uncomfortable year because Dog is opposite Dragon. So time to lay low, or as low as Dragon can. Plans could be delayed, there could be challenges manifesting your dreams, and people seem contrary. Dragon benefits by cultivating the Dog qualities of practicality and realism, which are not Dragon traits. Not a favorable year for marriage
Snake : You should concentrate on the home this year. There may be reasons for considering your location and what might be done to improve your living arrangements.
Horse : A highly auspicious year on which you feel revitalised and able to take on any commitment. By all means push ahead, for you will find your enthusiasm will be infectious and other people will want to join in. Use the time purposefully and constructively.
Goat/Sheep : Home life becomes the focus of attention during this year and you may feel the need to change your address. It is not an auspicious period for you personally, although it may benefit other members of your family. Consider the options carefully.
Monkey : This is an auspicious time for you to attend to your living environment. There are matters which should be seen to and require urgent attention, or you may find yourself having to find new accommodation at short notice.
Hen/Rooster : This is a period to consider positive improvements to your environment. House extensions are a possibility, or you might add to your living space in other ways. A change of location however is not advised this year.
Dog : This is your year and a time to start afresh. You can embark with confidence on a fresh venture, even if it involves a complete rethink of your life. South is a favourable destination for relocation.
Pig/Boar : This is a year of support and encouragement. You may proceed with your plans and are able to find time for self-development. For once you feel justified in ignoring those who do not share your views.
So, what do you think the New Year (2006 or Year of the Dog) will hold for you? Do you plan on making any resolutions, or just to continue living life one day at a time?
Either way, here’s wishing everyone a very Naughty New Year, blessed with good health, happiness and prosperity for you and your loved ones!
