Montreal / Kahnawake woman crowned Queen of Burlesque!

1st Indigenous woman and 1st Canadian to win the title

Lauren Jiles ( known on stage as Lou Lou la Duchesse de Rière) has been performing burlesque for more than a decade, but her latest win as the 2018 New Orleans Queen of Burlesque is extra special, as she is the 1st Indigenous woman and the 1st Canadian to win the title.

Jiles is Kanien’kehá:ka (Mohawk) from Kahnawake and is well-known in Montreal’s burlesque community. When she started her career 13 years ago, she was one of only a handful of Indigenous performers across Canada.

The international festival, which is in its 10th year, is known for crowning the top classic striptease dancer. Jiles was crowned on September 22nd, 2018 at New Orleans’ Civic Theatre.

Rick Delaup, founder and producer of the New Orleans Burlesque Festival, said Jiles had an edge over other contestants.

“All seven of the contestants are really established burlesque performers who are very skilled at what they do,” he said. “But when you have them all at one showcase where only one of them wins the title, you have to stand out among the others. She had everything in that performance. She had a really stunning costume. It was more original and it was just really noticeable.”

Annual Bisexuality Day – September 23rd

First observed in 1999, Bisexual Pride Day is observed every September 23rd by members of the bisexual community and their supporters.

This day is a call for the bisexual community, their friends and supporters to recognize and celebrate bisexual history, bisexual community and culture, and all the bisexual people in their lives.

This celebration of bisexuality in particular, as opposed to general LGBT events, was conceived as a response to the prejudice and marginalization of the bisexual persons by some in both the straight and greater LGBT communities.

Bisexual Pride Day is celebrated in the United States, Canada, Australia, as well as Germany, Japan, New Zealand, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

The Bisexual Awareness Week, also known as BiWeek, is an annual celebration week held on September 19th to the 26th. The celebration promotes acceptance of the bisexual community as well as attempts to create a platform for advocating Bisexual rights

A Quebec Long Weekend

Quebec’s provincial holiday, known as “La fête St-Jean” is quickly approaching and almost everyone is looking forward to a long holiday weekend.

I am looking forward to spending time with my beloved Partner, Oudjat — as work obligations meant that we missed out on time together last weekend. So I guess we’ll be trying to make up for it this weekend!

At least the weather isn’t looking so outrageously hot as it has been earlier this month. There’s a bit of cloud expected, and even the possibility of a thunderstorm on Sunday; but that won’t stop us from having fun.

We are also looking forward to attending Saturday’s BDSM play party at our favourite kinky home-away-from-home, the Club L’Espace dungeon — located in Montreal’s popular downtown Village area.

The Gay Village is currently in it’s summertime pedestrian mode, and is sporting it’s colourful decorative rainbow balls overhead.

12 Year Blog Anniversary!

12_year_anniversary

Today marks the 12th anniversary of the launch of the “Adventures of a HeadMistress” blog!

I don’t think I realized when I started this blog that I would still be doing it 12 years later!!

There have been busy timesand quieter times that come with the ups and downs of real life — as well as the shifts and changes in technology, but I have truly enjoyed sharing aspects of my fetish lifestyle, along with various tidbits of kink in the news.

I can only hope that I’ll still be around in the years to come and that my faithful readers and followers will be there as well!

Kinky Sex Is The New Norm in Quebec?

Today the local Montreal Gazette posted an article discussing the growing kinkiness of Quebecers.

While our province has always been known for its linguistic tensions, the study by researchers Christian Joyal and Julie Carpentier shows that we may soon become known for something much more erotic: our rather risqué sexual proclivities.

Handcuffs, blindfolds, spanking — Joyal said there is significant interest among Quebecers in engaging in those types of sexual activities. People aren’t just fantasizing about it, he added; they wish to do it.

Nearly half of the 1,040 Quebecers surveyed (45.6 per cent) have an interest in at least one type of sexual behaviour considered anomalous, like voyeurism, fetishism and masochism. One third of them had experienced the behaviour at least once.
