World’s Only Transgender Bodybuilding Competition

It’s been twenty years since Charles Bennett took the stage to compete in bodybuilding. But at the age of 63 he’s now done something he’s never done before — compete as a man for the first time in what’s billed as the world’s only transgender bodybuilding competition.

Bennett and seven fellow competitors went before a crowd Saturday evening in the annual International Association of Trans Bodybuilders competition at a theatre in Atlanta. The competition first started in 2014 and has since drawn competitors from across the country and one from Russia.

Competitors were judged in the categories of lightweight, middleweight, heavyweight and masters for age 60 and over. There are five disciplines on which they’re judged: mass, definition, proportion, symmetry and stage presence.

Montreal / Kahnawake woman crowned Queen of Burlesque!

1st Indigenous woman and 1st Canadian to win the title

Lauren Jiles ( known on stage as Lou Lou la Duchesse de Rière) has been performing burlesque for more than a decade, but her latest win as the 2018 New Orleans Queen of Burlesque is extra special, as she is the 1st Indigenous woman and the 1st Canadian to win the title.

Jiles is Kanien’kehá:ka (Mohawk) from Kahnawake and is well-known in Montreal’s burlesque community. When she started her career 13 years ago, she was one of only a handful of Indigenous performers across Canada.

The international festival, which is in its 10th year, is known for crowning the top classic striptease dancer. Jiles was crowned on September 22nd, 2018 at New Orleans’ Civic Theatre.

Rick Delaup, founder and producer of the New Orleans Burlesque Festival, said Jiles had an edge over other contestants.

“All seven of the contestants are really established burlesque performers who are very skilled at what they do,” he said. “But when you have them all at one showcase where only one of them wins the title, you have to stand out among the others. She had everything in that performance. She had a really stunning costume. It was more original and it was just really noticeable.”

Annual Bisexuality Day – September 23rd

First observed in 1999, Bisexual Pride Day is observed every September 23rd by members of the bisexual community and their supporters.

This day is a call for the bisexual community, their friends and supporters to recognize and celebrate bisexual history, bisexual community and culture, and all the bisexual people in their lives.

This celebration of bisexuality in particular, as opposed to general LGBT events, was conceived as a response to the prejudice and marginalization of the bisexual persons by some in both the straight and greater LGBT communities.

Bisexual Pride Day is celebrated in the United States, Canada, Australia, as well as Germany, Japan, New Zealand, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

The Bisexual Awareness Week, also known as BiWeek, is an annual celebration week held on September 19th to the 26th. The celebration promotes acceptance of the bisexual community as well as attempts to create a platform for advocating Bisexual rights
