Annual Bisexuality Day – September 23rd

First observed in 1999, Bisexual Pride Day is observed every September 23rd by members of the bisexual community and their supporters.

This day is a call for the bisexual community, their friends and supporters to recognize and celebrate bisexual history, bisexual community and culture, and all the bisexual people in their lives.

This celebration of bisexuality in particular, as opposed to general LGBT events, was conceived as a response to the prejudice and marginalization of the bisexual persons by some in both the straight and greater LGBT communities.

Bisexual Pride Day is celebrated in the United States, Canada, Australia, as well as Germany, Japan, New Zealand, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

The Bisexual Awareness Week, also known as BiWeek, is an annual celebration week held on September 19th to the 26th. The celebration promotes acceptance of the bisexual community as well as attempts to create a platform for advocating Bisexual rights

Article: India Finally Decriminalizes Homosexuality

Celebrations have erupted in India after the supreme court unanimously ruled to decriminalise homosexual sex in a landmark judgment for gay rights.

Estimates are that up to 8% of India’s population – 104 million people – might be LGBT, one of the largest such populations in the world.

The country’s highest court ruled that a 160-year-old law banning sex “against the order of nature” amounted to discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and was unconstitutional. The judgment, after 24 years of legal challenges, triggered elation among LBGT Indians and their allies across the country and plans for all-night parties in nightclubs in major cities.

Can you remember everyone?

Do you even WANT to remember everyone? 😉

Here’s the online calculator so that you can try it yourself:

PS: Apparently I’ve done the deed more than 86% of my female peers. However, I should state that I’ve never been one to choose sexual partners lightly, and I don’t regret even a single one. I guess my age group tended to not be too sexually adventurous or something…

Montreal’s Divers/Cité Festival On Edge Of Bankruptcy

Divers/Cité

Founded in 1994, Divers/Cité was responsible for the organization of the popular “Divers/Cité Festival”, a celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual and transvestite pride.

As of March 3rd, 2015, it sought protection from creditors, thus ending all it’s activities. According to documents from the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy Canada, total debt amounted to nearly $ 214,500. A third of the debt consists of salaries ($ 71,500) while the rest is divided between 23 other creditors.

Usually held in the Village, the festival was moved to the Old Port of Montreal in the summer of 2012, a blow by Suzanne Girard, co-founder and CEO of the organization.

“Since we were on the dock of the Old Port, we ate all our financial reserves”, she had said in the” Fugues magazine. “The fact that it is a free outdoor event, it was never profitable.”

Facebook Will Now Let You Fill In Whatever Gender You Want

FB_gender_choices

Facebook’s official “Diversity” account announced another sweeping change to the gender selection on users’ profiles. Starting today, users of Facebook’s English sites can type pretty much whatever they want into a custom box.

“We recognize that some people face challenges sharing their true gender identity with others, and this setting gives people the ability to express themselves in an authentic way,” the unnamed Diversity account holder said.

This change follows in the footsteps of Facebook’s decision last year to expand its gender options, which were previously limited to male, female, or no response. Just like the last update, users must type their preferred gender descriptor after choosing “other,” and Facebook will suggest terms from its prior list like “androgynous” and “gender fluid.” However, if users want to type in their own descriptor, they can now do so—and then choose whether that descriptor is shown publicly, to friends, or privately. Users can also still choose a preferred pronoun: him, her, or they/them.

Music Video of the Day: Girls Chase Boys

I’m really liking this music vid by Ingrid Michaelson, done as a modernized homage to Robert Plant’s “Simply Irresistible” — so much lovely guyliner and gender-switching to enjoy!
