Canada now allows “X” Gender on Passports

Canadians will now be allowed to have a neutral gender on their Canadian passport and immigration documents.

The Ministry of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship announced that a new gender designation, “X,” for those who don’t identify as male or female, will be available starting Aug. 31st, 2019.

“Canadian citizens and residents deserve to be respected and have the opportunity to live according to their own identity. As of today, individuals who do not identify exclusively as female or male can have an “X” printed on their passport, travel document, citizenship certificate or permanent resident card.”

Those who would like to replace their current documents with gender “X” can do so with no fee until June 4, 2020.

It’s the latest in a series of policy changes supported by Bill C-16, which defends the rights of transgender people and makes it illegal to discriminate based on “gender identity or expression.”

World’s Only Transgender Bodybuilding Competition

It’s been twenty years since Charles Bennett took the stage to compete in bodybuilding. But at the age of 63 he’s now done something he’s never done before — compete as a man for the first time in what’s billed as the world’s only transgender bodybuilding competition.

Bennett and seven fellow competitors went before a crowd Saturday evening in the annual International Association of Trans Bodybuilders competition at a theatre in Atlanta. The competition first started in 2014 and has since drawn competitors from across the country and one from Russia.

Competitors were judged in the categories of lightweight, middleweight, heavyweight and masters for age 60 and over. There are five disciplines on which they’re judged: mass, definition, proportion, symmetry and stage presence.

Article: India Finally Decriminalizes Homosexuality

Celebrations have erupted in India after the supreme court unanimously ruled to decriminalise homosexual sex in a landmark judgment for gay rights.

Estimates are that up to 8% of India’s population – 104 million people – might be LGBT, one of the largest such populations in the world.

The country’s highest court ruled that a 160-year-old law banning sex “against the order of nature” amounted to discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and was unconstitutional. The judgment, after 24 years of legal challenges, triggered elation among LBGT Indians and their allies across the country and plans for all-night parties in nightclubs in major cities.

Article: Pakistani Transgender People Are Running For Parliament

Trans activists take part in a demonstration in Karachi

Cast out, marginalised and even murdered, transgender people in Pakistan used to have to rely on their wits to survive. Now they are running for parliament.

The country is conservative and deeply religious and homosexuality is illegal, but it has nonetheless introduced laws that are at the global forefront of trans rights. Pakistan has officially recognised a third gender since 2009.

Laws were liberalised still further in March of 2018, with a wide-ranging piece of legislation that grants intersex people, eunuchs and trans men and women the option to self-identify their gender on official forms. A person born male can now hold a female passport. This new law lets people self-identify their gender on official documents and offers protection to 13 trans candidates in this week’s election.
