Doctors Report Rare Case of ‘Penile Strangulation’

According to the Irish Medical Journal (IMJ), a recent report has emerged that doctors in emergency department of the Mater University Hospital in Dublin faced an unusual medical dilemma after a metal ring became stuck on a man’s penis.

It said the man had put on the “titanium-based ring” seven hours beforehand and attended the emergency department after suffering from intense “pain and swelling”.

The rare case of “penile strangulation” finally required a fire brigade crew to use an angle grinder to remove the ring, after the man was sedated.

Penis amputation after intentional Viagra overdose

A man from southern Colombia had to have his penis amputated after he overdosed on Viagra to impress his girlfriend.

According to the news website “Columbia Reports”, the 66-year-old man from Gigante, Colombia, whose name has not been released, confessed to the local newspaper that he intentionally overdosed on the erectile dysfunction medicine.

However, as a result of his overly enthusiastic penis-enhancing-drug use, the anonymous man — who claims to be a former member of the Gigante municipal council — found that his penis had gone into an apparently constant state of erection. Initially, the self-proclaimed politician didn’t mind his altered state, but found out his member began to hurt a few days into the erection.

When he finally sought medical help, doctors in Gigante referred the man to a medical facility in Neiva, where medical staff noted that the man’s penis was inflamed and fractured. They informed the patient his only option was amputation so the inflammation and gangrene would stop spreading to other parts of his body.

A doctor told local newspaper La Nacion: ‘The patient showed bruising on the testicles and penis, was treated and is recovering well.

As a result of the incident, Neiva hospital issued a warning for men to not use penis enhancing drugs or erectile dysfunction medication without prescription from their doctors.

Oh for Fork’s Sake! Canberra Man Lodges Fork in Penis

No forking way.

A 70-year-old man from Canberra, Australia, came to an extraordinarily painful fork in the road when he presented to Canberra Hospital’s Emergency Department with a 10cm (3.9 inch) fork lodged in his penis. He admitted to having inserted the fork into his urethra some twelve hours earlier, before it became stuck.

The steel cutlery item was inserted into his urethra for his sexual gratification, a write-up in a medical journal said. It remains uncertain how the gentleman thought that could be achieved.

The fork was not visible from the outside but doctors were able to feel it; it was also clearly visible in x-rays. The fork was removed using forceps and “copious lubrication” under general anaesthetic.

The unusual medical case was subsequently published in “The International Journal of Surgery” in order to assist other medical teams in dealing with similar circumstances.

The doctors who removed the fork said it was important to share the case with others, “given the great management challenge faced by the oddity and infrequency with which a fork is encountered in the penile urethra.

Clarifiying the incident, the scientific medical team said in the journal: “The practice manifests primarily during states of pathological masturbation, substance abuse and intoxication and as a result of psychological compounders. Autoerotic stimulation with the aid of self-inserted urethral foreign bodies has been existent since time immemorial and have presented an unusual but known presentation to urologists.

The motives for insertion of a variety of objects are sometimes difficult to comprehend” stated the report, titled “An Unusual Urethral Foreign Body.”

Understatement of the year.
